Souls that balance joy and pain

This image was inspired by the poem of Alfred Thennyson 1842.

Sir Lancelot and Queen Guinevere. The first sentence starts with “souls that balance joy and pain”, and it reminded me of an exchange on a soul level between humans and lions as discussed by Linda Tucker and Credo Mutwa.

“Our African fore fathers gave us this wisdom because they understood what we ourselves should never forget, that is the oneness of the human being, in which the animal and the deity co-exist.”  Credo Mutwa

“I was the possessor of a very old consciousness that had been dormant for centuries and was only beginning to reawaken. (take out inverted commas here)The lioness in me and the woman became one” Linda Tucker.

“Chicha matimba ni nghala”  Maria Khoza explained to Linda that her lion ancestor, her lion guardian and her teacher was inviting her to exchange energy with her human soul, and that she can become a lion in a conscious altering state, such as in dreams, meditation or trance.  Clearly the notion of assuming lion identity was perfectly comprehensible to Maria Khoza, ”Va sangoma lava chichaka kuva tinghala” was her phrase for  a sangoma who takes on lion form. The word Chichaka is associated with change evolution or transformation. As time went on, I learned that the shape shifting notion of human into a lion, is best described as “assumption” - Linda Tucker “Mystery of the White Lion – Children of the Sun God. “

Mankind has always represented the Lion as a King or royalty. We have recognised their importance and yet we have failed to protect them. We have damaged the special relationship that has existed between our two species since the earliest days. We have failed to protect the delicate balance between humans and lions.
